Welcome
Our Classroom
The students will create their own "rules of the classroom" during the first week of class. These will be hung next to the projector in the front of the classroom. The class will also create a separate "rules of group work", that will be hung next to the teacher's desk. These guidelines will give the students a framework of how the class will run. The agenda for the class each day will be on the white board at the start of class. This allows the students to know what they are doing each day.
- This is how your class will look the first day you come into class.

Classroom Routines
There are several routines that will be implemented during the school year, and some of the main ones are listed below.
- Entering the Classroom (Start of Class): It is expected that students are quiet after entering the door, and grab their journals before going to their desks. This routine will be modeled by the teacher the first day of class after students label their journals. The students will be told on the first day of class that this routine is expected everyday throughout the year.
- Group switching: The students will be in tables that allows them to work with other students on projects/assignments,etc. These groups will be switched once every six weeks to allow students to become more comfortable with change and working with others. This routine will be announced to students on the first day of class, and done throughout the school year.
- Note-taking: An important routine that will be used frequently in our classroom is note-taking. At the beginning of the year, each student will be required to bring a journal to class. During the first week of class, we will be going over note-taking strategies. Note-taking will be 10-20% of your grade. A specific type of note taking is not required (example: Cornell method).
- Writing Summaries: students write a short summary of what they have written at the bottom of their page after certain lectures or activities. This routine will be tol to students the first day of class. The students will be reminded of this routine after they hear their first lecture. The teacher will always announce before an activity or lecture starts if the students will need to write a summary of it or not.
- Using the Restroom: Students will ask the teacher if they can use the restroom before leaving the classroom. This will be explained and modeled to students the first day of school. The students will be told on the first day of class that this routine is expected everyday throughout the year.
- Getting the Students' Attention: The teacher will raise her hand in the air silently, while waiting for other students to copy her until the entire class has their hand up before she speaks to the class. This will be explained and modeled to students the first day of school. The students will be told on the first day of class that this routine is expected everyday throughout the year.
- Leaving the Classroom (End of Class): Students are expected to leave their journals in a plastic box before leaving the room. This will be explained and modeled to students the first day of school. The students will be told on the first day of class that this routine is expected everyday throughout the year.
